Did you know that most humans have never used soap?

Next time you’re perusing the soap aisle at your grocery store, read the product labels of the various “soaps” on the shelves. You’re likely to see phrases such as “body bar” or “classic scent”, but usually not “soap”. Most of what you’ll find in the grocery store is classified by the FDA as cosmetics and detergents and not soap. They’re usually made from synthetic petroleum-based or plant-based surfacants, are very cheap to make, and are readily found at stores all over the planet.

Real soap, on the other hand, is a completely different thing. To make soap, natural butters, oils, and fats are mixed with a strong base, such as lye, to produce a chemical-free product that is much kinder and gentler to the skin than what you’ll find at your local grocery store. This process is called saponification, and the soap can take up to 6 weeks to cure. But because it uses expensive ingredients and long cure times, it’s not commonly sold; most companies prefer to sell detergents instead. And thus, most humans have never used real soap.

The Foster’s Homemade Difference

Do you plan on leaving Ikea furniture in your will for your kids and grandkids? Do you eat white bread made with enriched flour, or do you prefer multigrain wheat bread? Do you appreciate the difference between bland mass-produced eggs vs colorful, tasty eggs from free-range hens? Without a doubt, the Industrial Age ushered in an era of mass-produced goods and foods that increased the quality of life for people all over the planet. But lost in the shuffle is an appreciation for what natural, quality-made products can do for your quality of life. This mentality affects everything from furniture to foods and even soaps.

Here at Foster’s Homemade Soaps, we use high quality natural ingredients such as olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, tallow, kaolin clay, and more. Our Artisan line of soaps take on average 5 weeks to cure before they’re ready for distribution. Some soaps, like our 100% Castille Olive Soap, requires a full year to cure! Our passion for our craft results in a high-quality natural soap with excellent lather and gentle cleansing properties.

Your nose will love it, your skin will thank you, and your friends will be jealous!
